"Mediocrity"

Excerpts from Journey to Significance by Tony Miller

Mediocrity is an attitude of the heart.

Too often Christians are satisfied with what they have and do not reach for anything more. Their contentment becomes a place of containment!

Your satisfaction with status quo becomes a barrier to your listening heart. Rather than "quick to hear," you become quick to justify your ineffectiveness and spiritualize your barrenness.

God has called you to be exceptional. When you continue to flounder in the land of "Barely Enough," you are robbing God of His investment and yourself of your destiny. God's standard for His creation is excellence. If you accept anything less, you have chosen to live below your privilege as a child of God.

God is not intimidated by your limitations. He already knows what they are, why they exist and where they are located. God delights in giving you a dream that is too big for you to do in your own might. He wants you to get excited about His plan for your life and to take the leap of faith that will move you into the awkwardness of knowing, "if God doesn't come through for me, I am finished!"

Pull up the stakes that are holding the chains that keep you content with mediocrity. Stop singing the blues. It is time to hear a new song and do a new thing!

Welcome to The Potter's Hand Ministries official website!

The Potter's Hand Ministries is a fine arts ministry located in Macon, GA that is designed to facilitate a Christ-centered environment for students to study the various disciplines of the arts while deepening their relationship with Christ.

How it all started:

In January of 1996, I was going through some personal issues with how God had made me. One particular morning, during my devotions, I came across Romans 9:20-21.

20) On the contrary, who are you, O man, who answers back to God? The thing molded will not say to the molder, "Why did you make me like this," will it?

21) Or does not the potter have a right over the clay, to make from the same lump one vessel for honorable use, and another for common use?

I have read this scripture many times but as I meditated over it I began to see a visual of those around me. Some were elegant champagne glasses, others were exquisite wine goblets. I saw myself as a coffee mug. As I sat there (a little bummed I might add) disappointed that I was simply a coffee mug and not nearly as beautiful as the others, I felt God's gentle nudging. "You know, champagne and wine glasses are attractive. But they stand in a china hutch on display and are only brought out on occasion for entertaining. A coffee mug, on the other hand, is put to use every day. It is practical, serviceable, and has multiple purposes. AND, everyone has a favorite mug. Wouldn't you really rather be a coffee mug that is used every day instead of a wine glass on display that is only used when entertainment is needed?"

It honestly didn't take much contemplation to realize the truth that lay before me. Even though my purpose was "common" rather than "honorable" (or "noble"), I knew that God, in His infinite wisdom had fashioned me for the purpose most suitable for me.

I pray each of you will rest in the divine destiny for which He has created you, whether you are a champagne glass or a coffee mug (Some days I feel like a Styrofoam cup. But that's a whole separate teaching!), and that you will allow The Potter's Hand to continue to mold you into His vessel to be used for His purposes.
